What Is Botox?

Botox is a drug doctors have been using for years to treat wrinkles and facial creases. Botox is a brand name of a toxin made by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. There are other brands, such as Dysport and Xeomin. Botox is the term you hear most often because it was the first injectable botulinum toxin.

The most common areas for Botox treatment are the forehead glabellar area, crow’s feet around the sides of the eyes, and the worry lines which occur horizontally across the forehead.

How can I decide if Botox is the right treatment for me?

Every Botox appointment starts with a consultation with our Nurse Injector at Serene Cosmetic Clinic. During this time, you will go over all of your beauty goals, concerns and questions you have. Everything during the consultation will remain confidential, and together, you and the Nurse can create the best course of action in order to achieve your beauty goals.

What happens during a treatment?

The treatment appointment starts with a consultation where your Nurse will discuss your beauty goals with you and answer any questions you have. After the consultation, the injections themselves are very quick. You can expect the whole session to last 30 minutes. The nurse may want to schedule a follow-up appointment within the next couple weeks of your appointment to check on your results and your satisfaction. This is a great opportunity to discuss how to maintain your results.

When will I notice my results and how long will they last?

Every person will experience different results but it usually takes two weeks for full results to occur. Results last between 3-4 months on average. For best results, follow the directions given by your Nurse Injector.

What is a unit?

A unit is simply the way the injectable product is measured so your treatment is always consistent. The exact number of units you will need to achieve the look you want will be determined in your private consultation.

Does Botox hurt? What are the most common side effects?

Botox is best described as a little pin pricks. It is definitely tolerable and considerably painless. Common side effects include minimal bruising and headaches. Although most patients do not experience any side effects at all. The nurse injector will go over with you all of the possible side effects and things to avoid after your treatment during consultation.

Is there any reason I cannot undergo treatment?

The Nurse Injector will go over all the reasons why you cannot have a Botox treatment done. Some examples include being pregnant, breastfeeding, allergies, infections and nerve disorders. It is very important to share every detail about your health history, allergies and medications with your Nurse Injector.
